Hebrews 12:1: Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.
We’ve just been given guidance. A pointer; we will be given endurance to run life’s race. A race we were created to start and a race only we can finish.
The last few days, I have written about our trip to the Central Valley in California. We were visiting friends who just happen to have a Pontoon Boat. They invited us to take a Sunday afternoon cruise but first we BBQ’d at their home. With our tummies full, we loaded the boat and piled into their SUV. The lake was close maybe 30 minutes away. After arriving at the lake, we tried to unload the boat and hit a snag. The boat was not releasing from the trailer. The guys fiddled and fussed for a bit but eventually the boat floated free and we were able to start our boat trip.
The afternoon was perfect! No wind, a cool breeze and no other boats on the lake. We cruised on the lake towards the last cove and then turned around to lazily watch the surrounding beauty: golden hills, sun setting and small heron-type ducks (?) diving for their dinner.
We enjoyed one of those perfect days spending time with long-time friends, comfortable enough to enjoy each other’s company or just spend some reflection time, if we felt like it!
Isn’t it funny when you find yourself somewhere – anywhere – that situation starts out a little rough and frustrating and turns into a forever memory.
We are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses; sometimes family, sometimes friends and yes, sometimes church members. We can be supported and encouraged by these wonderful people. So much so that we can lay aside every weight burdening us down.
God gave us the gift of companionship to encourage us. God gives us perfect days to satisfy us, to strengthen us and make glad our hearts. Enjoy life’s miracles.
Psalm 104:13-15: He watereth the hills from His chambers: the earth is satisfied with the fruit of Thy works. He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth; and wine that maketh glad the heart of man, and oil to make his face to shine, and bread which strengtheneth man’s heart.
