Have you ever been camping and started a campfire? Does this conjure up visions of S’mores or roasting hot dogs around a toasty fire? Have you ever gotten smoke in your eyes? It hurts, right? Your eyes burn, water and become red and did I say; water, water, water?
Or have you ever been watching the horizon for a long period of time? Your eyes start seeing things; wavy lines and weird images. Sometimes, during a waiting period in our life, we get down-right homesick. We want to stay faithful, we want to wait patiently but our eyes and our hearts grow heavy; waiting for a sign from our Lord.
Oh, we know He is a good God and we know He will provide us with an answer but the waiting is tormenting us; that’s when the why’s start.
Don’t relax your grip on the Lord’s counsel. His Word is there for our comfort. His great Love will revive you; just stay away from the smoke; pick up His Book; sit by the fire and relax!
Psalm 119: 81-88 (the Message)
I’m homesick—longing for your salvation; I’m waiting for your word of hope. My eyes grow heavy watching for some sign of your promise; how long must I wait for your comfort? There’s smoke in my eyes—they burn and water, but I keep a steady gaze on the instructions you post. How long do I have to put up with all this? How long till you haul my tormentors into court? The arrogant godless try to throw me off track, ignorant as they are of God and his ways. Everything you command is a sure thing, but they harass me with lies. Help! They’ve pushed and pushed—they never let up—but I haven’t relaxed my grip on your counsel. In your great love revive me so I can alertly obey your every word.
