Have you ever felt so defeated you could relate with the Prophet Elijah when he said: I’ve had enough, Lord…Take my life?

Elijah was so afraid of Ahab – he ran away. Elijah ran away from Ahab even running away from his servant. He ran a day’s journey away and fell asleep under a tree where the angel of the Lord appeared to him. The angel gave him food but Elijah fell back asleep; too weary to get up and face his problems. Then the angel appeared to Elijah, again, a second time.

But Elijah continued running for his life. He traveled forty days and forty nights reaching Horeb. Elijah hid in a cave in the Mountain of God.

While Elijah hid – God questioned.

God asked Elijah: “What are you doing here?”

Elijah broke down and told the Lord: “I am the only one left”

The Lord said Hah! (my addition) “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.”

Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave.

The Lord’s voice was in the whisper. Then a voice said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”

The LORD said to him, “Go back the way you came.

Has the Lord been asking you questions lately? Has the Almighty asked you “What are you doing here?”

Is the Lord whispering to you? “Go back the way you came.”

Have you faced powerful winds, earthquakes and fires in your life?

Don’t pull the cloak over your eyes – God has plans for you – its time to stop running.
