Hosea 6: 4-6 says: What can I do with you, ___? What can I do with you, ____? Your love is like the morning mist, like the early dew that disappears. Therefore I cut you in pieces with my prophets, I killed you with the words of my mouth—then my judgments go forth like the sun. For I desire mercy, not sacrifice, and acknowledgment of God rather than burnt offerings.
Misty mornings, early dew, even sunset mist is often an ethereal scene. Yes, misty mornings are beautiful! But, do we want to live our lives like the mist – bursting with beauty in the early morning but fading out with the sun’s rays?
My life application Bible has a chart showing how God wants our obedience not our sacrifices.
Here are the verses the chart references. God teaches us about obedience through-out the Bible:
1 Samuel 15:22-23
Psalm 40: 6-8
Psalm 51: 16-19
Jeremiah 7: 21-23
Hosea 6:6
Amos 5: 21-24
Micah 6: 6-8
Matthew 9:13
God says obedience is better than sacrifice. He wants us to grow as we walk in His Light – along our life path. God wants us to be contrite. God deserves our obedience. God wants our loyalty even when we doubt or question. God wants us to practice justice, mercy and to walk humbly with Him (as the guide).
Look at dewy mornings and misty sunset – Don’t live in the mist.
Psalm 18: 36 says: You broaden the path beneath me so my ankles do not turn.
Live on the path chosen for you – your God is ahead – widening, expanding and enlarging the path beneath your feet.
