Sometimes I run across wise old sayings. Sometimes the old sayings make me ponder and sometimes I just laugh out loud when I read them.
Today, I came across an Old Russian proverb: A Horse may run quickly but it cannot escape its tail.
The mind-picture of a big horse running in circles and chasing its tail made me laugh. Then the true meaning of the saying rang in my ears. How many times have I tried to out-run my problems? How many times have I tried to run circling, round and round, my worries? It seems the harder I try to put these troubling thoughts out of my mind, the more quickly those unsettling and disturbing concerns come crashing back.
Anxiety and apprehension become burdens in my life; burdens I carry and drag around.
I also came across another wise old saying written by an unknown author: Faith is the ability to not panic.
I looked up the meaning of Faith (Word Hippo): Trust, devotion, faithfulness, allegiance and reliance.
Then I looked up the meaning of Ability (Word Hippo): Power, confidence, talent and gift.
Talent and gift – where have I heard that before?
Ephesians 4:7: But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift.
Ever heard about faithfulness, trust and reliance?
Psalm 36:5 (NKJV): Your mercy, O LORD, is in the heavens; Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.
Psalm 5: 11(NKJV): But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You; Let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them; Let those also who love Your name Be joyful in You.
Psalm 26:3(NIV): for I have always been mindful of your unfailing love and have lived in reliance on your faithfulness.
